by Derwentwater Art
Inspired by Lakeland Derwentwater Art is a new exciting venture which seeks to deliver unique pieces of glass jewellery to clients who appreciate distinctive individual work. The exclusive pieces are created by Maureen Hodgson who trained at the National Glass Centre and Higham Hall in the Lake District. The jewellery range is inspired by the dramatic and ever-changing landscape of lakes and fells and Maureen s natural love of colour, textures and style. A variety of glass types are used to produce the vivid colour and sophistication of Derwentwater Glass. Most prominent is dichroic glass which disperses light to produce dazzling, eye-catching effects. This type of glass, originally developed by NASA for the space industry, is made of very thin layers of metal oxides which scatter and reflect light producing a striking variety of colour and effect. Combining dichroic glass with the rainbow colours of bullseye glass creates the unique jewellery of Derwentwater glass. All pieces are individually handcrafted. Please note all of the jewellery is handcrafted with natural materials so some variations in tone and finish unlike the perfect finish of machine manufactured products should be expected and add authenticity to the originality of the piece and some stones do contain natural flaws, cracks and inclusions. The image displayed is of the item which will be dispatched as there is only one in existance. Dichroic glass is a speciality glass developed in the 1950s by the aerospace industry. Dichroic refers to the property of having more than one colour when viewed from different angles In the lengthy and costly procedure the thin layers of metallic oxides are deposited on the surface of the glass giving an extraordinary selection of vivid colours. Kiln fired in extreme heat to produce the desired stunning textures, colours and shapes, the resulting pieces of jewellery are both beautiful and unique In dichroic glass and bullseye coloured glass the resulting creations are unique. No two firings are the same so every piece of jewellery is individual No products found
